First Day of Preschool in Jacksonville

Tips for Handling the First Day of Preschool

Preschool in Jacksonville by Rattles to Tassels Learning Center

Even if your preschooler will only be away from home for a few hours, the first day of school is a big step. Help your child to be ready for preschool with some important tips. Remember:

The preschool classroom is a fun setting designed to focus on your child’s development of new skills. The use of language grows daily, plus math and science reasoning ability begins to take off. Now that your child has experienced success with potty training and other preparatory activities, it’s time to move on to the next level.

As a multidisciplinary learning center, we work hard to ensure the success of each child’s individual skills and light curiosity to discover new interests in academics and creative thinking through art expressions and outdoor learning while at play.

These First Day of Preschool Tips are for you!

  • Tip 1 – Don’t rush

Don’t race through a new morning routine. Be aware of the time and get everyone up at a reasonable hour. Allow time for eating breakfast – and tantrums!

  • Tip 2 – Arrive early

Arriving early allows time for your preschooler to get familiar with the classroom

and spend a little one-on-one time with the teacher before it gets busy. It also allows time for your child to settle in before the action start because the first day can be overwhelming. It’s important to try to make this transition process as stress-free as possible.

  • Tip 3 – Put on a happy face

As a parent, you’re probably just as nervous as your child on the first day of preschool. Remember – nerves are contagious. Be calm and supportive so your child feels confident entering the classroom door.

  • Tip 4 – Be supportive, keep the goodbyes short

Never sneak out when your preschooler is looking away. Always say goodbye! Reinforce you’ll be back to for pick-up. Remember, it’s normal for kids to have a meltdown when it’s time to separate (though some don’t). Even if your child is screaming like a banshee, chances are that all will be fine five minutes after you walk out the door. Don’t panic. Our preschool teachers have seen it all, and we know just what to do. Don’t ever be afraid to ask one of our teachers for help getting your child comfortable with preschool. We’re here for you!
